Thyroid Problems

Thyroid Disease Symptoms Can be Treated Naturally

The most common thyroid disease symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, feeling cold, hair loss and brain fog can be treated naturally in Fort Collins, Colorado. Do you have any of these low thyroid symptoms? They could be symptoms of thyroid problems and it’s important to get this figured out!

The thyroid gland is located at the front of the neck, and regulates the body’s metabolism, or how you use energy.

You can think of your thyroid like the accelerator, or gas pedal in your car.  Push and the car goes fast; let off and the car slows down. The same can be said of your thyroid; when it’s working properly your metabolism runs efficiently, but when the thyroid is not functioning or ‘off’, your metabolism runs more slowly.

The most common signs of thyroid problems are slow metabolism and fatigue.

The majority of people have underactive thyroid symptoms. More rarely, one may have an over active thyroid. Women are most affected by thyroid conditions, but men aren’t completely immune to it either!

Getting the right treatment by a thyroid doctor is imperative!

Symptoms of Thyroid Problems:

Thyroid and Weight Loss

Unexplained weight change is one of the most common symptoms. Low thyroid levels (hypothyroidism) may cause weight gain, while high levels of thyroid hormone (hyperthyroidism) may cause weight loss.

Swelling in the neck

Look below your Adam’s apple for mild bulging; an enlarged thyroid gland is one of the symptoms of thyroid problems. If you see a swollen thyroid you need a more detailed examination and testing.

Heart rate changes

The heart may start beating more slowly, or it may speed up. Palpitations are one of the symptoms of a hyperactive thyroid.

Changes in Energy

The symptoms of low thyroid (hypothyroidism) can make you feel tired all the time, while overactive thyroid symptoms (Hyperthyroidism) can cause anxiety, insomnia and restlessness.

Mood changes

Hypothyroidism may make some people feel depressed, while hyperthyroidism may cause feelings of irritability.

Thyroid Hair loss

Is a common sign of thyroid disease. Getting your thyroid functioning properly again will restore hair loss and thyroid function.

Temperature Changes

Feeling too cold is a common hypothyroid symptom, while hyperthyroid causes sweating and overheating.

Other symptoms of hypothyroidism include:

  • Heavy or irregular menses
  • Dry skin, hair and nails
  • Numbness and tingling
  • Constipation
  • Mood changes – depression, irritability, sadness
  • Increases in cholesterol levels
  • Menopausal symptoms – hot flashes, night sweats, weight gain

Other symptoms of hyperthyroidism include:

  • Trembling, weakness
  • Vision changes
  • Diarrhea
  • Irregular menses
  • Heart palpitations
  • Weight loss

Thyroid disease symptoms and menopause

Menopause and thryoid can be mistaken for each other because they share common symptoms (menstrual and mood changes), and they may often occur together. Getting tested will reveal what is going on with all of your hormones.

Thyroid disease symptoms are extremely common, especially in women. The American Thyroid Association recommends screening for everyone over the age of 35. Having a family history of thyroid disorder increases your chances of having one as well.

Diagnosis & Treatment; Free T3 and Free T4.

Making the proper diagnosis of what is going on with your thyroid is important before any treatment is initiated.

There are several different approaches to diagnosis and treatment; especially between conventional and alternative medicine doctors.

“Reading in between the lines” and looking at other thyroid test results, such as Free T3, Free T4 and thyroid antibodies is an important step in the process.
