Natural Children’s Health

One of our specialties is Natural Children’s Health.

There’s more to children’s health than vaccinations! Today it seems that parents are encouraged only to vaccinate their kids, and little else is provided in the way of prevention and wellness.

Keeping kids healthy can be a challenge. Do you ever wonder what other ways there are to keep your child healthy from day to day? With more and more children’s medicines being pulled off the shelves due to their potential for harm or contamination, natural childrens health is a safer way to go.

Natural medicine is ideal for kids because it’s gentle and effective.

Parents face a lot of issues when it comes to their children’s health. Of course you want the best for your child; we can help you make the right decisions when it comes to your children’s natural health and nutrition issues.

Some of the most common problems that parents bring their children in for include:

  • Healthy nutrition guidance (It’s not on the food pyramid, I will tell you that!)
  • Frequent illness (colds, flus, stomach bugs, ear infections, etc)
  • Allergies
  • Asthma
  • Rashes
  • Weight gain
  • Constipation
  • Focus and attention issues

Children’s vaccinations are always a hot topic. If you need some objective advice, please come in and speak to me. There’s a lot to understand when navigating the vaccine schedule!

Natural Children’s Health Advice

While kids seem to get sick often, keeping them healthy can be less of a challenge if you do a few key things; we’ve had really good success with our 3 young children and with the kids we care for in our practice:

  1. Very low sugar diet. Sugar doesn’t help the immune system out, and it seems to make the body a better place for bugs to live!
  2. Adequate sleep. How much sleep do your kids get? Small children need close to 12 hours a night, and most other kids need at least 9-10 hours.
  3. Exercise and fresh air. Get them outside. Open the windows. Yes, even in the winter. Being out in the cold DOES NOT cause illness. But, staying inside, with stale air and not getting enough exercise will!
  4. Nutrition. Everyone knows we need good nutrition to be healthy. Getting kids to eat well is a challenge; unfortunately the majority of food choices presented to kids at school are sweets, simple carbs and other processed junk foods. These are not foods that promote health. Fresh foods, whole foods, ‘real’ foods do, however.

Children’s Nutritional Supplements

Do kids need supplements? Yes, especially if they have a limited palate and don’t eat a variety of fresh foods (vegetables, meats and fruit). We use a children’s multivitamin as a back up plan when nutrition isn’t optimal.

When it seems like everyone is sick (during the school year), we use a natural children’s immune system booster. It. Is. Awesome! It keeps them healthy, and when they do get sick, clears them up rapidly.

Also, probiotics are super important for keeping everyone healthy. Probiotics keep the gut healthy, and in turn the rest of the body.

Lastly, essential fatty acids are great for the brain, mood and eyes in kids. We have fish oil that’s blended with berries (and one that is blended with tropical fruits); it’s super tasty and kids have no idea it has fish oil in it. (Hey, sometimes you’ve got to do what you have to do, right?)

We see kids for allergies, skin rashes, frequent colds/flus, digestion problems, nutrition issues, and lot of other reasons. Please come into our Fort Collins clinic so we can help you make the right choices for natural childrens health.
